Update on Ankara Bombings
We wanted to follow up from a previous post with regards to our previous post on the Ankara bombings. It is now said that “at least 97 people in Ankara” were killed from the bombings. It seems that the Turkish government is looking at the Islamic State as potentially being behind these attacks. The Turkish Prime Minister Ahmed Davutoglu was quoted as saying “”If you consider the way the attack happened and the general trend of it, we have identified Islamic State as the primary focus…”.
This is the largest act of terror within the borders of Turkey that the country has seen. Individuals are questioning how this could have happened, and what were officials doing to try to stop such attacks. In fact, some are pointing fingers at the government. For example, “Opponents of Erdogan, who has led the country over 13 years, blame him for the attack, accusing the state, at best, of intelligence failings, and at worst: of complicity by stirring up nationalist, anti-Kurdish sentiment.”
