Developments in the Paris Shooting Case
Yesterday I posted on the terror attack at the Charlie Hebdo office in Paris, France where 12 people were killed. There has been a great deal of news coverage since the initial attack, and I wanted to post links to stories covering recent developments in the case.
CNN has published a timeline of the events, as well as a list of victims of the Charlie Hebdo attacks. France 24 has links to leaders’ responses, French media responses to the attacks, as well as support from other publications throughout the world.
Moroever, here is a link with regards to the suspects in the killing. Authorities believe that two brothers, Cherif Kouachi and his brother Said Kouachi may be the ones responsible for the attack. There is also a third suspect, Hamyd Mourad. According to the CNN report, “Cherif Kouachi, a 32-year-old French citizen, was sentenced to three years in prison in 2008 for being part of a jihadist recruitment ring in Paris that sent fighters to join the conflict in Iraq. He was arrested in January 2005, at the age of 22, when he and another man were about to set off for Syria, via which they planned to reach Iraq where war was raging.” And the report says that there is less information on Said. However, according to the CNN report, Mourad, the third person believed to be involved, “has already turned himself in to police, a source close to the case told the news agency Agence France-Presse. Hamyd Mourad, 18, surrendered to police late Wednesday after seeing his name mentioned on social media, the source told AFP.”
The two individuals still seem to be on the loose, and police are searching for them. There were reports of a killing of a police officer in another incident, but there have not been confirmations that the two connected to the Charlie Hebdo terror attacks were also behind this killing.
Let us hope that those responsible for the terror attack on the Charlie Hebdo office, as well as the attack and killing of the police officer will be captured, and that no other lives are lost.
