New York Times Piece on Syrian Deaths
The New York Times published a piece discussing the deaths of Syrians during the civil war currently taking place in the country. I recommend that you take a look at the story, as it breaks down civilian deaths, locations where these deaths are concentrated, how the citizens were killed, as well as figures of how many are believed to have been kidnapped and tortured.
Sadly, given the various actors in the conflict (the Bashar Al-Asad regime still holding onto power, the influence of Russia to continue to back the regime, ISIS, the Free Syrian Army, and other groups), it does not seem that there will be an end to this conflict anytime soon. The situation is a dire one for civilians, many who have lost someone in the fighting, and for the millions of refugees who are looking for a new place to live, to work, and to go to school.
